Can you imagine having someone by your side, ready to assist you at a moment’s notice? They would be there, always available to offer advice whenever you ask. Need help figuring something out in life? They’d be there to guide you. Perhaps you’re in trouble and don’t know how to get out—no problem, they’re just waiting for your call. Are you being mocked, constantly put down, or even physically abused? Picture someone stepping in to defend you, to fight your battles for you. It sounds almost unthinkable, doesn’t it? We tend to imagine that only the rich or privileged could afford this kind of unwavering support system. But what if I told you this is not only possible but available to everyone?
In the Bible, there’s a powerful word: Paraclete. This Greek term appears in John 14:16, where Jesus tells His disciples that though He is about to leave, they shouldn’t worry—because He will send the Paraclete. The word means “one who counsels, helps, intercedes, or advocates.” The incredible truth is that every believer has access to the same Holy Spirit Jesus Himself relied on. Think about that for a moment.
It’s mind-boggling to consider that Jesus, the Son of God, declared multiple times that He could do nothing by Himself. He couldn’t pray, preach, teach, serve God, or perform any miracles without the Holy Spirit. If Jesus needed the Holy Spirit to fulfill His mission, how much more do we?
And yet, so many believers fail to realize that we have access to the same power—the same Helper—that Jesus had. It’s a staggering thought: the same Spirit that enabled Jesus to accomplish His Father’s will is living in you and me today.
Take a moment to dwell on these scriptures and see if what I’m saying applies to you:
• John 14:16 – Jesus promises to send the Helper to be with us.
• John 5:19-23 – “The Son can do nothing by Himself.”
• John 5:30 – “By myself, I can do nothing.”
• John 7:16-17 – “My teaching is not my own.”
• John 12:49-50 – “For I did not speak on my own.”
• Matthew 10:1 – Jesus gives His disciples authority.
• John 20:21-23 – After His resurrection, He breathes the Holy Spirit upon them.
• Acts 1:8 – Before His ascension, Jesus tells His disciples, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.”
The same Spirit that empowered Jesus is ready to work in your life today. You don’t have to take on life’s challenges alone. The Holy Spirit is here to be your counselor, advocate, and guide. Just as Jesus depended on the Spirit, so can you. The Holy Spirit offers you the strength, wisdom, and courage to overcome every obstacle.
You are not alone. God has given you the greatest Helper imaginable, and He is just waiting for you to call on Him. Take hold of this incredible gift, and experience the power of the Holy Spirit in your life. Trust that He is with you in every situation, ready to lead you into victory. Do it by faith. God loves it when we act in faith.
